Mr Mathew performed surgery on my severe wrist fracture last year. The surgery and follow up care has been excellent. He has closely followed my progress in out patients and has kept me well informed. I certainly would recommend him as a skilful and caring orthopaedic surgeon.

Doctor Matthews was perfect from my first appointment to after my operation and my aftercare. Each time he saw me he took the time to explain what was going to happen next. I was very pleased and lucky to have seen Doctor Matthews I would definitely recommend him if other patients have the opportunity to do so.

I was fortunate to be able to see Mr Mathew very quickly after suddenly experiencing the most severe pain (in my left wrist) ever in my 77 years! I have a number of related problems in other joints, and from a doctor's viewpoint a difficulty in prescribing pain relief. This young man listened intently, and forthwith instituted a diagnostic plan which he explained carefully in layman's terms. Although I suffered an apparently rare but significant reaction to one of the procedures,(an Ultrasound Scan with guided injection) I am satisfied that it could not have been foreseen and when I saw Mr Mathew for the review, he explained precisely the relevant problems, all three possible options, their merits/ limitations, and a regime for day-to-day care. Importantly, because of the complexity, he would write a detailed letter to me and one to my GP which would (a) suggest referral to a dermatologist for a skin test, in order to identify whether I am allergic to one of the drugs used in the procedure preceding the reaction, and(b) to explore the reason for one abnormal blood test reading. On a wider level his diagnostic plan was thorough enough for him to be able to reassure me that there was no general metabolic problem with bones or joints; it's a case of wear and tear. As a retired police officer I well understand! I could not have experienced better and more comprehensive care. He told me that his tutor was Mr Ali, another great consultant (specializing in knee care) who is also at Spire Hartswood and Queens Hospitals and I firmly and fully recommend them both.
